...about my work
essential elements of our existence; tragedy and comedy.
My working style begins with an inspiration, which can be anything; A blade of grass, a plastic bag blowing across the street, or the smell of a garbage truck passing by. I may photo reference the inspiration and begin to sketch out my ideas. I experiment with materials, color, and design during this beginning process. Painting is a physical activity as I move and manipulate materials and paint, forming the shapes, values, and works placed in space. I weave these things in and out of the surface until I reach my destination with the piece.
My work is about exploration. Exploration of mediums, subject, and self.
I push my medium to work in unconventional ways with pouring, sewing, gluing, and incorporating unconventional materials such as fabrics, plastics, and metal. My subjects explore the curious relationship of humans with the natural world. The constant push and pull of humans to conform the natural world to their ideal. ...bio
Growing up in the dysfunction of a family led by someone struggling with mental challenges, I learned self-sufficiency and a knack for finding humor and irony in most situations. We moved often, and once I reached maturity, I took to the road and visited or lived in almost every corner of the United States.
In the early 1990’s I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts at West Virginia University. I have shown my work in several shows, and along with my continued love of paint, I have developed my skills to include digital art.
Today, I am the parent of two of the most amazing people I have ever met. I live in Austin with my husband, where brand-new creative inspiration greets me each morning.
